BOMB draws 7 new letter tiles. Use BOMB when the points are low and the badge is already green or you just don't like your letters. The bomb gets you a new set of letter tiles that might let you make bigger points. It's often great to use when you have all consonants or all vowels. You may only use 1 bomb per turn.

Score is calculated by first applying any letter multipliers to letters placed on a letter multiplier square. (L2,L3,L4) The letter multiplier only applies the first time a letter is placed on the square. A 6 point letter is worth 18 if it's on an L3 square. The points are then added up for each word formed.

Why is it called chums? ›

Another kind of chum couldn't be more different from a buddy: it's chopped up fish parts used as bait on a fishing boat. This meaning comes from the Scottish chum, "food," while the first definition was Oxford University slang for a roommate or "chamber fellow."

In the 17th century, university students who lived together on campus were called chums, short for “chamberfellows” – what we'd call roommates. While roommate does not imply anything about how the space-sharers get along, chums are close friends, though the word itself now has an old-fashioned ring to it.

Sometimes a word may cross two premium word squares. The word score is doubled then re-doubled - 4 times the complete word score; or tripled and then re-tripled - 9 times the complete word score!

The pink double word squares double the entire word value and the red triple word scores triple the entire word value. This remains true even if a blank tile covers the double word score or triple word score square. The pink square in the middle of the board used to start the game is a double word score.

While you're most likely to easily spot 3-letter words, you'll obviously score more points for longer words. Before releasing your mouse for a word, check to see if you can make the word longer with letters either at the front or back end. Three of the same letter in a row also counts as a word.

Complex words won't always give you the highest score, so try to create words using letters with the highest points. Make a wordlist to keep on hand or to memorize. Don't forget to use your bonus bombs if you get into some trouble finding words or if you're running out of time.

Keep creating words from the available squares. As you use up entire rows and columns of cubes, the game area shrinks. Each time you clear one of the rows or columns, the Bonus Bomb meter grows. When the meter is full, you can set a Bonus Bomb anywhere on the grid.
