Minor Leagues

In his first-ever professional Major League Baseball in 1995, Gabe was selected in the 57th position for Detroit Tigers.

Gabe was offered $10,000 as a signing-on bonus to play for Minor league Jamestown Jammers. He played 63 games for them and a year later went to Fayetteville Generals.

He was beginning to impress people around him leading the South Atlantic League in hits and doubles. Gabe was then selected for South Atlantic League All-Stars team.

A year later Gabe joined the Lakeland Flying Tigers and improved his game, even more, when he led Florida State League by doubles scoring 40 points.

Major League

In 1998 finally, Gabe Kapler made his Major League Debut with Detroit Tigers. He was selected as the 57th draft pick and became the first ever tiger to be selected last overall.

In 1999, Kapler became the youngest Tiger to score a homerun whose record was not broken till 2008. He also scored recorded 10 homerun within just over 60 matches.

During the entire season, a boy who never scored home runs in high school scored career-high 18 home runs and scored over 400 at bat.

A year later after being drafted by Detroit Tigers he was then transferred to Texas Rangers in a trade that involved Francisco Cordero, Bill Haselman, Frank Catalanotto, and Justin Thompson.
